At the end of every month, I'm sure many of you have opened your phone app to check how much data or talk time you have left on your plan. Go over your quota and the system charges you by the minute or by the gigabyte. Use less than you paid for and it just disappears — no rollover to next month. I've met many shop owners confused by their LINE Official Account bills for exactly the same reason. LINE OA broadcast message quotas work just like a mobile plan: you buy a monthly allotment, unused messages expire, and going over costs extra per message.
All figures in this article were verified from the official LINE for Business page at lineforbusiness.com on September 16, 2026. LINE can update these prices at any time without waiting for a yearly cycle. The free message quota, for example, was 500 messages per month in mid-2024 before being reduced to 300 messages starting August 1, 2024 (Announcement from LINE for Business, June 19, 2024). Please verify the figures below against the official page on the day you read this.
Take Three Minutes to Check Your Own LINE Official Account Manager First
Log in to manager.line.biz with your shop's account. Go to the monthly package menu and check which plan you're on. Then look at the broadcast or insights section to see how many broadcast messages you actually sent last month. Keep those two numbers in mind — the rest of this article will walk you through whether your current plan fits your actual usage.
If you'd rather not dig through historical data, there's a quick formula you can use right now. Take the number of friends in your LINE OA account who haven't blocked you (LINE calls this "target reach," and only this group counts toward your quota), then multiply by how many times you broadcast per month. That gives you an approximate message count. A noodle restaurant owner I spoke with had around 4,000 friends in his account and broadcast promotions twice a week — that's roughly 32,000 messages per month (4,000 × 8 times). I'll use this example to illustrate the pricing crossover point in the next section.
LINE OA Currently Has Three Plan Tiers — Starting Prices Aren't Far Apart
Free — 300 Broadcast Messages per Month
When you open an official account, you immediately get 300 free broadcast messages per month with no monthly fee. Once you use up those 300 messages in a given month, you can't send more until the next month begins — or you'll need to upgrade. To put it simply: if your account has 300 or more friends and you want to broadcast even once a month, the free quota isn't enough. The free plan works well for shops whose friend lists are still in the tens to low hundreds and who don't broadcast frequently.
Basic — 1,280 THB per Month (before VAT)
You get 15,000 broadcast messages per month. Messages beyond your quota are charged at 0.10 THB each. If you also want the MyCustomer feature for a customer membership system, that costs an additional 369 THB per month separately. The 1,280 THB price excludes 7% VAT — the actual cost with VAT is 1,369.60 THB per month.
Pro — 1,780 THB per Month (before VAT)
You get 35,000 broadcast messages per month. Overage messages are charged at a lower rate of 0.06 THB per message. The MyCustomer feature — which costs extra on other plans — is included free with Pro. With VAT, the total is 1,904.60 THB per month. One important note: all monthly plans cannot be purchased through the iOS app. You must sign up through manager.line.biz on a web browser. (Full pricing table on the LINE for Business page)
Which Message Types Count Toward the Quota?
A common misconception is that every chat message you type to a customer gets deducted from your quota. That's not the case. According to LINE for Business's help center, the messages that count toward your quota are: all broadcast messages (including targeted broadcasts), Step Messages, and messages sent via Messaging API — Push API, Multicast API, and Broadcast API. Chat messages your shop types individually to customers, auto-reply messages, welcome messages, and messages sent via Reply API do NOT count toward the quota — no matter how many customers you reply to each day. (Help Center, LINE for Business) In simple terms: the monthly cost is for blasting messages to large groups, not for individual customer conversations.
One thing to watch out for: if you want to send automated notifications — such as alerting a customer that their order is ready, without waiting for them to message you first — those go through Push API, which counts toward your broadcast quota. This differs from reply messages where the customer contacts you first and you respond within the allotted window, which are always free. When planning to connect an automated notification system to LINE OA, factor these messages into your quota calculation — not just your promotional broadcasts.
Where Exactly Does Basic Become More Expensive Than Pro?
Here's the simple calculation. If your shop sends more than 15,000 broadcast messages per month, the Basic plan starts adding 0.10 THB per message on top of the 1,280 THB base. The Pro plan stays flat at 1,780 THB until you exceed 35,000 messages. Setting those two equations equal, you'll see that at exactly 20,000 messages per month the Basic plan's cost matches Pro (1,280 + 5,000 × 0.10 = 1,780 THB). Beyond that point, the more you send, the more expensive Basic becomes relative to Pro. If you also want MyCustomer, the crossover happens even sooner — Basic effectively starts at 1,649 THB including MyCustomer, so exceeding the quota by just 1,310 messages (16,310 total per month) already pushes costs above Pro. These crossover figures hold whether or not you include VAT, since the 7% applies equally to both sides. Plug in your shop's actual broadcast numbers from the first step and you'll immediately see whether you're on the most cost-efficient plan.
Going back to the noodle restaurant example: if that shop sends 32,000 messages per month but is on the Basic plan, it pays overage on 17,000 messages at 0.10 THB each — that's 1,700 THB — plus the 1,280 THB base, totaling 2,980 THB per month before VAT. That's roughly 1.5× more than Pro's flat 1,780 THB, even though the message count is still under Pro's quota. This shop has been on the wrong plan without knowing it.
"Just a Few Thousand Baht — Way Cheaper Than a Website." True, But…
I hear this often, and I can't deny it's accurate. On a monthly cost basis, the Pro plan at 1,904.60 THB is immediately cheaper than a starter website at ฿79,000 (the website price is before VAT; 1,904.60 THB includes VAT). I'm not arguing that point. But the question worth asking isn't which is cheaper in the first month. The LINE OA monthly fee is a recurring cost that never ends. This year you pay 1,904.60. Next year you pay 1,904.60 again — or possibly more if LINE adjusts pricing the way they adjusted the free quota. Even if your shop has been open for ten years, this expense never turns into something you own. The friend list, chat history, and all customer data live in LINE's system, not in your hands. If your account ever becomes inaccessible, everything you've built up becomes inaccessible with it.
Why Starting Your Own Customer Database Now Makes More Sense Over the Long Run
The money you pay monthly for a LINE OA plan accumulates no value for your shop. Going back to the noodle restaurant with 4,000 target reach contacts: if next year that grows to 8,000 with no new blocks, broadcasting twice a week now requires roughly 64,000 messages per month — over the Pro quota. You'd pay overage on 29,000 messages at 0.06 THB each, adding 1,740 THB per month on top of the 1,780 THB base. A customer database you own yourself, by contrast, doesn't scale its costs proportionally when your customer count doubles. Shops that start building their own customer data today — without waiting until they're big enough — have the advantage of a longer accumulated record. When you want to run a targeted promotion for loyal customers, you'll have real data to work with.
What You Need — You Don't Have to Start at Enterprise Scale
To be transparent: our team doesn't sell LINE OA services and we don't build chatbots. What we do is build websites and back-office systems that integrate with your existing LINE OA account — for example, an advance ordering system that stores customer phone numbers and order history in your own database, then sends a notification to LINE OA only when truly necessary (such as when an order is ready for pickup), minimizing the messages that eat into your quota. Or a queue system and loyalty points membership system where the database belongs to your shop, not a third-party platform. If you'd like to see what these systems look like in practice, visit tumwebsme.com/system. For shops that haven't yet set up a Rich Menu for customers to tap inside your LINE OA chat, there's a detailed guide at How to Design a LINE OA Rich Menu That Gets Clicks. And if you're still unsure what LINE OA is or how it differs from a personal LINE account, read the basics at What Is LINE OA? How It Differs from a Personal LINE Account (2026).
This kind of ongoing monthly expense isn't unique to LINE OA. Shops selling through marketplaces or food delivery apps face the same thing with GP fees deducted from every order. And if you want to calculate at what point having your own website becomes more cost-effective than paying platform commissions, there's a formula at Breaking Even: Platform Fees vs. Your Own Website.
A 30-Day Plan Before You Start Building Your Own Customer Database
Week 1 — Review your actual bill: Open LINE Official Account Manager, check your current plan and the broadcast message count for the last three months. Compare against the crossover thresholds calculated above.
Week 2 — Categorize your message types: Determine whether most of your messages are mass broadcasts or individual customer chat replies — the costs are completely different.
Week 3 — Gather what you already have: Check where your shop currently stores customer phone numbers or recurring customer data, even if it's just a notebook or an Excel file. That's already a starting point.
Week 4 — Talk to a web development team: Discuss what scope of customer data system makes sense for your shop. You don't need everything to be perfect before you start.
How to Measure Whether You're on the Right Track
There are two numbers to track every month. The first is the overage charge on your LINE OA bill. If it's 300 THB this month and 500 THB next month, that's a cost genuinely growing alongside your customer base. The second is how many customer phone numbers or email addresses you've added to your own database that month. If the first number grows slowly and the second grows steadily, you're heading in the right direction.
Closing Thoughts
LINE OA is a genuinely useful tool — I'm not suggesting you stop using it or that the pricing is unreasonable. Every plan delivers value at its own level. What I'd like to leave you with is this: try viewing that monthly expense through the lens of what it doesn't give you back — long-term ownership of your customer data. If your shop starts building its own foundation alongside LINE OA, however small, that's a strong starting point. The mobile plan analogy from the beginning holds: at month's end, your quota resets to zero along with the money you paid. A customer database you own yourself is one of the few things that doesn't reset to zero on the first of every month.
